US prosecutors have filed criminal charges of commodities fraud and manipulation against Avraham Eisenberg for attempting to steal $110 million by rigging the Mango Markets cryptocurrency exchange

– Eisenberg is accused of using two accounts to buy and sell futures based on the relative values of Mango's crypto token MNGO and the stablecoin USD Coin, artificially inflating the price of MNGO and allowing him to borrow and then withdraw $110 million in cryptocurrencies from other investors' deposits without intending to repay the funds

Eisenberg was arrested in Puerto Rico on Monday night and it is unclear if he has a lawyer

– Mango is a decentralized cryptocurrency exchange that allows investors to lend, borrow, swap, and use leverage to trade cryptocurrency assets

Mango began negotiations with Eisenberg and reached a settlement to recoup $67 million

– Eisenberg claimed responsibility for the trading and tweeted that the exchange had become insolvent

He also tweeted that "all of our actions were legal open market actions, using the protocol as designed"

– US prosecutors filed the criminal charges in Manhattan federal court on December 23rd

The FBI is investigating the case . It is unclear if Eisenberg will enter a plea in the case.
