Talking about Jessica Pegula, who recently won a tournament in Montreal, Connors said that the way she’s been playing before the US Open makes her a strong competitor.
Connors, who won eight big tennis titles, also talked about how a player’s excitement and passion on the tennis court show how they’re feeling. He thought Pegula was in good shape and feeling excited to play in the US Open.
He said, “The players and how they play, their intensity, excitement, and passion they show… Jessica Pegula is one of those who should be in the running for the title.”
Jimmy Connors also said that when players like Jessica Pegula challenge the well-known favorites like Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, it makes tennis more interesting. He believes that when many players want to become the best and beat each other, more people will want to watch.

Jessica Pegula will start her US Open matches against an Italian player named Camila Giorgi, who hits the ball hard. Last year, Pegula reached the quarterfinals of the US Open, but she lost to the player who eventually became the champion, Iga Swiatek.
